Overview: Identité was founded in 2017 by a team of security and enterprise software veterans. The firm offers security software solutions with cloud services and on-premise deployment.

Its NoPass ‘passwordless’ platform is a registration and authentication tool that enables users to register and authenticate using three factors – something you know, something you have and something you are. The system uses Full-Duplex Authentication (FDA) to authenticate users coming into a customer or enterprise portal. FDA operates two ways, verifying both the app on the user’s device and the connection to the server.

The platform “takes under 10 seconds for the end-user to set up initially, and even less time to log-in”. It leverages the biometrics in smartphones, tablets and PCs and encrypts all communications in-band (so transmitted within the same packets or carrier frequency as the data). NoPass can also facilitate Two-Party Integrity (TPI) processes in the transaction approval process. TPI is a measure that requires a second party to approve a first party’s business or financial transaction.

Variations include NoPass Employee MFA, is for critical corporate networks. It has a flexible architecture to aid integration with any User Authentication solution. A version of this, NoPass Employee SSO, adds features such as Federation/SAML/OIDC support and Identity Brokering.

Identité also offers NoPass SDK, which is a software developer kit enabling firms to  build the NoPass 3-factor authentication into their existing mobile applications, which means users do not have to install an additional app on their smart device to perform authentication.

The firm says its solution is suitable for eCommerce sites, workplace and business applications, financial, healthcare, and government use.

In February 2022, Identité was awarded USPTO Patent #11,245,526 for its Full-Duplex Password-less Authentication, which prevents online fraud, phishing and impersonation attacks on users.

TMI view: No one but hackers likes passwords. Decentralised authentication for corporate treasurers effectively removes a hacker’s primary target. With users required only compare two images – a picture and a 3-digit number ­– accessibility is made easier.

Verdict: This system removes the practice of centralised password storage and in doing so removes the possibility of mass breaches and credential reuse. It’s a solution to make hackers re-think what until now has been all too easy.
