Overview: Medius is a global provider of cloud-based spend management solutions, helping organisations find process efficiencies, cost saving opportunities and greater financial control across their procure-to-pay environment.
Its modular spend management suite includes solutions for strategic sourcing, contract management, procurement, accounts payable automation and supplier management. It also offers data insights tools aimed at control, compliance and cost savings within the source-to-pay process.

Founded in 2001, Medius raised a total of €2.5m in funding over one round on Dec 8, 2009. The investor was Nordic independent venture capital firm, Innovations Kapital.
In September 2017, Medius was acquired by the Los Angeles-based global investment firm Marlin Equity Partners. In November 2019 Medius acquired Wax Digital, a complementary UK-based procurement solutions provider. The group has over 350 employees and offices in Sweden (HQ), the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Poland.
In July 2023, Medius announced the completion of its acquisition of expense management software company Expensya. This gives Medius clients access to the Tunisian startup’s AI-enabled, mobile-first, employee spend management capabilities.

TMI view: “Medius has achieved impressive growth that is being driven by strong demand for its innovative cloud-based invoice automation technology,” said Jan-Olivier Fillols, a principal at Marlin Equity Partners. The acquisition by Marlin, a very active investor in technology firms (with 16 firms in its current portfolio), suggests Medius has the backing to further accelerate its ongoing global expansion and continued investment in its cloud-based solutions. When Medius merged with Wax Digital, it not only added significantly to the firm’s European footprint, but it also transformed Medius from an accounts payable-focused solution provider into one offering a comprehensive and modular product suite with full source-to-pay capabilities.
